Daniel’s 1-hit Review:

April 2026 Batch (This is a retelling review):

First off, the smell and taste alone will sell Shangri-La out fast. I’m not exaggerating when I say the smell is special. It’s not that it’s louder than other fire strains, it just the combo of terpenes create the most lively orange smell I’ve smelled in forever. The Alien Vortex had that pungent orange/grapefruit smell. Shangri-La has a sweet orange smell. It smells like those little Cuties clementines. It looks awesome, smells more awesome and the effects were so good.

I was relaxed, but not dulled. The effects felt like a clean indica dominant hybrid.

Now, we’re going to get into a little rant/op-ed/educational piece….

Up in the strain info, you can go to Leafly’s description of Shangri-La and it says,

“Bred by JinxProof Genetics, Shangri-La crosses parent strains Fudo Myo-o and 9 Pound Hammer to create a 60/40 sativa-dominant strain.”

I knew 9 Pound Hammer was super duper indica, so the math side of my brain set off alarms. I didn’t know what Fudo Myo was, but I knew that 9 lb. hammer was 80%+ indica because it had hammered me in the past. So, unless this ‘mysterious’ Fudo Myo was 100% sativa, it was genetically impossible to get a 60/40 sativa dom with an 80-90% indica as a parent. This is very basic 5th or 6th math.

So, I moseyed over to JinxProof’s website to see what they had to say about the strain THEY BRED. Here’s a link, but I’ve copy/pasted the first thing it says so you don’t have to go there right now:

JinxProof Shangri-La

[COPY PASTE]

Shangri-La – 75% indica hybrid with massive yields, purple-kissed buds, and fruity-spicy terpene profile. Excellent for flower or extracts.

Description

Shangri-La –

Genetics & Lineage

A high-yielding hybrid from Fudo Mayo × 9lb Hammer, Shangri-La offers a striking mix of bag appeal, terpene production, and easy cultivation. Its dense, resinous flowers and fruity-spicy flavor make it a top choice for both smokers and extractors.

Hybrid Profile

Parents: Fudo Mayo × 9lb Hammer
Indica: 75%
Sativa: 25%
Flowering Time: 56–63 days
Yield: Massive

Phenotypes & Growth

  • Pheno 1: Bushy, indica-like structure with chunky, trichome-coated nuggets over dark purple foliage. Firm, resin-heavy flowers that ooze at harvest.

  • Pheno 2: Noticeable early stretch—benefits from topping during veg and early flower. Produces epic pineapple-shaped colas with violet pistils and dense light-green buds.

Shangri-La is an easy cloner, requires minimal trimming at harvest, and thrives with topping when needed. Medium to large stretch.

Aroma & Flavor

Gooey grape-berry and lemon-mango dominate, with hints of coffee and skunky fruit. Smoke is sweet, slightly spicy, and especially flavorful when vaped.

Once again, basic math saved the day and my sanity. The breeder says it’s 75% indica. Leafly says 60/40 sativa dominant hybrid. That’s a pretty significant disconnect.

I’m an not going to trash Leafly. I have been a fan of them since they started in 2014. They gave my first cannabis business, Halcyon Organics, a free listing as a show of solidarity and ‘fight the power’ in the South, and they gave me a bunch of awesome strain t shirts that are so comfy and I still wear them proudly.

The lesson here is that Leafly can be wrong. They must rely on user generated content and I imagine their ‘editorial process’ is lax. I think the user generated content is the problem because you’ll find that ‘cannabis expert’ is a title without any licensing or degree.

Having a drug problem doesn’t make you an expert in the drug you abuse. It makes you knowledgeable on one facet of the drug, but that’s all. And No, working at a dispensary for $13/hr doesn’t make you an expert anymore than a McDonald’s employee is a Michelin chef.

This whole thing is leading to the eventuality of us having to break the indica/sativa effect stereotypes. I understand why we have “indica means in da couch and sativa is for energy”. Binary choices are much easier to choose. Unfortunately, cannabis isn’t that simple.

There are literally infinite combinations of terpenes, flavonoids, and cannabinoids that create all the different smells, tastes, and effects.

Trying to fit infinity into a choice of 2 is tough. However, trying to catalogue infinity is impossible.

The only solution I can think of is to get some Shangri-La and not worry about this. 😉

Note on product photos: We take the flower photos using our phone camera and white posterboard. What you see is what you get and most look better IRL than the photos. We don’t use filters, professional photography, pro lights, $5000 camera/lens, or stock photography.

This is one of the MOST EXCITING developments in the Legal Hemp Industry!

These beautiful buds qualify as industrial hemp and comply with ALL provisions of the 2018 U.S. Farm Bill. There are 2 legal requirements that a product must meet to be legal hemp:

1 . The cannabis plant must be grown under a Federal Hemp License.

2. The finished product must have less than .3% Delta-9 THC

These flowers comply with both. Look at the attached COA and you’ll see the Delta 9 THC is less than .3%.

Here’s the cool part. The Delta 9 THCa can be over 30%. This is not chemically altered or sprayed with anything. These are legit cannabis buds that are harvested before the D9 THC gets ‘hot’ (over .3%). Delta 9 THC and Delta 9 THCa are very similar compounds. In fact, THCa is a precursor to THC. However, they are 100% different, so the Farm Bill counts this as hemp.
